Welcome to the first wedding post!

This one is all about the personal touches we included in our special day. Stephen and I wanted a simple day and it turned out beautifully and it was completely ‘us’.

As it turned out, I had some health issues (more on that later) that hampered my ability to do a lot of the setup, but I am so grateful for everyone who pitched in and helped! My sisters and a couple friends set up all the decorations for the reception and I couldn’t have done a better job myself!

There are some affiliate links sprinkled throughout the wedding posts and the fun thing is if you purchase through the links, you’ll get a discount and have the option to share discounts with others! #winwin

The Details

If there’s one tip I can pass on to future brides, it’s ‘wear comfy shoes!’, or at least bring comfy ones to change into after the ceremony and your feet will thank you 🙂 My wedding shoes are copper-colored velvet Birdies and they feel like slippers! I’ve been wearing them through this fall and winter, too, and they’re going strong!
P.S. Whether you’re in need of shoes for a special event or to add to your closet, this link will give you $30 off your first order (yay!)

Kathryn (of Sunny Hill Flower Farm) is a long-time dear friend of mine in Luling, Texas. I knew right away that she would create the loveliest flowers for our special day and she did an amazing job! She took my idea images and made the prettiest, flowy, ‘wild’ bouquet, and it was perfect! She even included some silk flowers which was a delightful touch because I got to keep them as a memento.
My sister does custom leather work and made my bouquet wrap and after the wedding, I put it on a vase so I could display it with the silk flowers in our house 🙂

Stephen picked out my rings from a local jeweler in Alabama (Isbell Jewelers) and he surprised me with both! I wanted to be surprised and found out he has excellent taste 🙂 Isbell is a family-run business and has served Stephen’s family for a long time. I love the nostalgia of continuing the tradition in our new family!

We picked out his wedding band at Diamonds Direct and he also wore a diamond ring belonging to his dad which was so special. I made a hair bow out of one of my dad’s ties and while we don’t know if loved ones in glory can look down and see things on earth, I know they both would if they could 🙂

One of our wonderful church deacons made a personalized mirror sign for us! Including an Alabama Storm Trooper for Stephen and a violin for me, our wedding date, wedding Bible reference, and a special feature: it lights up!

Another couple who attended my church had a bunch of blue florals left over from their son’s wedding rehearsal dinner and we used them for our reception decor. Add in white & navy tablecloths and light strands and it was all just perfect!

The Food

Our wedding was in the afternoon, so we decided on salsa & queso as a snack and heartily enjoyed both from Paloma Blanca!

Stephen & I are big apple pie fans vs being cake fans, and I also really liked the idea of a dessert buffet! My friend, Carmen, of Lulosa’s Cakes, made a gluten-free apple pie and a host of delicious mini desserts.

The one regret we have of our wedding day is leaving the venue without extra dessert & queso…we still talk about both to this day!

The Paper Goods

Our save-the-date cards and invitations are from Social Print Studio. I picked out the designs and added our engagement photos. The SPS team promptly answered my questions via email and I really liked the quality of the cards once they arrived. I also ordered a guest book album from SPS that I’ll share in a separate post!
As a side note, they have a great ambassador program, feel free to check it out here!

That about wraps it up for wedding post #1. But if you like wedding dress makeovers and wedding portraits, do come back soon!
